1992 - Biloxi, MS.   Biloxi Belle opens.

2007 - Macau.   The Venetian Macao (Chinese: 澳門威尼斯人) is a luxury hotel and casino resort in Macau owned by the American Las Vegas Sands company. The Venetian is a 39-story, casino hotel on the Cotai Strip in Macau. The 10,500,000-square-foot (980,000 m2) Venetian Macao is modeled on its sister casino resort The Venetian Las Vegas. The Venetian Macao is the largest casino in the world, the largest single structure hotel building in Asia, and also the seventh-largest building in the world by floor area.The main hotel tower was finished in July 2007 and the resort officially opened on 28 August 2007.[2] The resort has 3,000 suites, 1,200,000 sq ft (110,000 m2) of convention space, 1,600,000 sq ft (150,000 m2) of retail, 550,000 square feet (51,000 m2) of casino space – with 3,400 slot machines and 800 gambling tables and the 15,000-seat Cotai Arena for entertainment and sports events. The lead architect for the Venetian Macao was Aedas and HKS, Inc. joint venture, who were responsible for the design, coordination.

2008 - Sunrise Manor Nevada.   Eastside Cannery Casino and Hotel is a locals casino on the Boulder Strip in Sunrise Manor, Nevada, owned and operated by Boyd Gaming. The Eastside Cannery has 65,000 sq ft (6,000 m2) of casino space, 307 hotel rooms, a special events ballroom, a private club on the 16th floor, one restaurant, and two bars.

1994 - Robinsonville, MS.   Circus Circus opens.

2005 - Gulf Coast.   Hurricane Katrina hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast with high winds, heavy rains and a 30-foot (9.1 m) storm surge, causing massive damage to the area. Every casino on the Gulf Coast was severly damaged or destroyed. The Hard Rock casino in Biloxi was completed and scheduled to open any day when the hurricaine hit.

1946 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Golden Nugget Las Vegas is a luxury hotel and casino located in Las Vegas, Nevada on the Fremont Street Experience. The property is owned and operated by Landry's, Inc. It is the largest casino in the downtown area, with a total of 2,419 deluxe guest rooms and suites.The Golden Nugget was originally built in 1946, making it one of the oldest casinos in the city. Jackie Gaughan at one time owned a stake in the hotel as part of his many downtown properties. Steve Wynn bought a stake in the Nugget, which he increased so that, in 1973, he became the majority shareholder, and the youngest casino owner in Las Vegas. In 1977 he opened the first hotel tower and the resort earned its first four diamond rating from Mobil Travel Guide. It was the foundation for Wynn's rise to prominence in the casino industry. The second hotel tower opened in 1984 along with the showroom, and the third tower was opened in 1989. On May 31, 2000, the Golden Nugget (and all of Steve Wynn's other properties) was sold. .

1951 - Reno, NV.   Frisco Club opens at 207 North Center Street, Reno, NV.

1991 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Main Street Station Hotel and Casino and Brewery is a hotel and casino located in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. It is owned by Boyd Gaming. The casino is connected to California Hotel and Casino by an enclosed skywalk over Main Street.Main Street Station offers a self-guided tour which includes a portion of the Berlin Wall, stained glass from the Lillian Russell Mansion, doors and facade from the Kuwait Royal Bank, doors from the George Pullman Mansion, Louisa May Alcott pullman car, chandeliers from the Coca-Cola building and Figaro Opera House, and various statues. The portion of the Berlin Wall is located in the men's restroom and has urinals affixed to it.

1932 - Reno, NV.   The Public Club, 233 Lake Street, was licensed for craps and keno. Sometimes operating as Crane's, a 21 game was added later. In June of 1937 the license was revoked for having narcotics on the property, and the business closed.

1980 - Atlantic City, NJ.   The Brighton Hotel & Casino was built at a cost of $70 million by Greate Bay Casino Corporation, controlled by two local businessmen, Eugene Gatti and Arthur Kania. It opened on August 13, 1980. The Brighton was the fourth property to open following the 1977 legalization of casinos in Atlantic City, and the first to be built from the ground up, rather than as a renovation of an existing hotel The developers hoped that the Brighton's quiet atmosphere and small size, about half that of the city's other casino hotels, would prove attractive to high rollers. Early marketing featured Bert Parks as a spokesman, and the slogan "Brighton Up".After less than a month in operation, Holiday Inns agreed to buy the Brighton for $121 million in cash and stock plus assumption of the property's $37 million mortgage. Holiday Inns pulled out of the deal a month later.

1982 - Las Vegas, NV.   The El Rancho Hotel and Casino (formerly known as The Thunderbird and The Silverbird) was a hotel and casino that operated on the Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada from 1948 to 1992. After its closure, the El Rancho sat vacant for eight years while two companies made several attempts to reopen or replace the resort. The El Rancho was eventually demolished in 2000 after a news investigation found the decrepit buildings to be in violation of health and safety regulations. The site later became part of the land used for The Drew Las Vegas, a resort scheduled to open in 2022.

2006 - Bay St. Louis, MS.   Hollywoood Casino reopens after Hurricaine Katrina.

2014 - Atlantic City NJ.   In June 2014, Caesars Entertainment announced the planned closure of the Showboat, even though the property was profitable. The move was made in an effort to stabilize Caesars's other Atlantic City casinos.] After a buyer could not be found, the Showboat closed on August 31, 2014, at 4:00 PM. It employed 2,100 people, but 470 of them were immediately hired at other Caesars casinos. The shutdown came amid a wave of closures of Atlantic City properties, with four of the city's casinos closing in 2014.The plan was derailed by legal issues, and Stockton sold the property to Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein for $23 million in January 2016.Blatstein announced in June 2016 that the Showboat would reopen the following month as a non-gaming hotel. The "new" Showboat Atlantic City Hotel opened July 8th, accepting reservations and welcoming guests. The new hotel features only one restaurant, bar and coffee shop. .

1931 - Reno, NV.   Heidelburg Club opened at 6405 South Virginia Street, outside of Reno. The dinner club/nightclub was licensed for craps and 21. It closed in 1936 and reopened as the Del Monte Club.

1945 - Reno, NV.   The West Indies Club, which had opened more than a year earlier at 5560 South Virginia Street, was licensed for 21 and slots. The club closed in 1954, after being sold to Raymond I. Smith, of Harold's Club.

2015 - San Juan, Puerto Rico.   Sheraton El Casino closed.

1950 - Las Vegas Nevada.   Opened in September 1950, the casino was built on the grounds of the Last Frontier Village of the Hotel Last Frontier, and was originally named the Golden Slipper Saloon and Gambling Hall. The owner originally wanted to call it the Silver Slipper, but there already was an existing establishment with that name. The problem was solved when that small operation was purchased and closed, and the Golden Slipper became the Silver Slipper. The casino was known for its rotating slipper that sat atop the casino.In April 1964, the casino became the first in Nevada to be shut down on cheating charges. Agents raided the Silver Slipper for using "flat" dice and for having other rigged games.

1955 - Las Vegas, NV.   Matty's Tropics opens at 3337 Las Vegas Blvd. South, on the Las Vegas Strip, closes the next year .

1956 - Reno, NV.   The Sourdough Club, at 8 West Commercial Row, was licensed for poker. It closed in June of 1957.

1987 - Las Vegas, NV.   Park Hotel & Casino opens at 300 N. Main Street, downtown Las Vegas - was Holiday International, becomes Main Street Station.

1998 - Palm Beach, Aruba.   The Excelsior Casino in the Holiday Inn SunSpree Aruba Resort opens. It was previously the Grand Holiday Casino.

2018 - Tiverton, Rhode Island.   Casino grand opening.

1911 - South Pasedena California.   William Fisk Harrah September 2, 1911 was an American businessman and the founder of Harrah's Hotel and Casinos.Harrah was very influential in how the gaming industry operated in Nevada. He used his influence to create the Nevada Gaming Control Board in 1955, an organization used to regulate gaming in Nevada. In 1959, Harrah created an even stronger Gaming Commission to regulate the casinos in Nevada with the intent of ridding them of corruption and crime. Harrah was known for his relations with both his customers and employees. He was the first to invite African-American entertainers to perform in his casinos and welcome all races.[citation needed] He removed the color and sexual barrier by hiring women as dealers as well as other employees regardless of skin color or gender.[citation needed] The main theater in Harrah's Reno was named Sammy's Showroom after entertainer Sammy Davis, Jr. (whose Duesenberg replica now resides in the museum that bears Mr. Harrah's name).

1948 - Las Vegas Nevada.   On September 2, 1948, the Thunderbird Hotel was the fourth resort to open on the Las Vegas Strip. The resort was built by developer Marion Hicks and owned by Lieutenant Governor of Nevada Clifford A. Jones. The resort had a Native American theme and featured portraits, a Navajo-based restaurant, the only bowling alley ever on the Strip, and a showroom. In 1955, articles surfaced in the Las Vegas Sun saying that Meyer Lansky and other underworld figures held hidden shares in the hotel. .

1994 - N. Kansas City, MO.   Harrah's casino opens.

2014 - Atlantic City NJ.   The hotel, resort, and casino closed permanently on September 2, 2014. Revel Hotel and Casino was the third Atlantic City casino to close in 2014, after Showboat Hotel Casino closed on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 4:00 pmfollowing the Atlantic Club Hotel Casino. The hotel was closed on September 1, 2014 at 11:00 am and the casino was closed the next day at 6:00 am. All reservations after September 1 were canceled and room deposits were automatically refunded. All Revel guests (self and/or valet) were required to remove their parked cars from the facility by 9:00 am on September 2. Revel Group, LLC; which owns the Revel brand, notified Revel Atlantic City, that it would terminate its leasing agreement with Revel. The withdraw of the Revel brand included the quality of the property to its closure.
