1952 - Las Vegas Nevada.   The Sands Hotel and Casino was a historic hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, United States, that operated from 1952 to 1996. Designed by the architect Wayne McAllister, with a prominent 56-foot (17 m) high sign, the Sands was the seventh resort to open on the Strip. During its heyday, the Sands was the center of entertainment and "cool" on the Strip, and hosted many famous entertainers of the day, most notably the Rat Pack. .

2010 - Las Vegas Nevada .   (commonly referred to simply as The Cosmopolitan or The Cosmo) is a luxury resort casino and hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. The resort opened on December 15, 2010, and is located just south of the Bellagio on the west side of Las Vegas Boulevard, and consists of two high rise towers. The $3.9 billion project features 2,995 rooms, a 110,000 sq ft casino, 300,000 sq ft of retail and restaurant space, a 40,000 sq ft (3,700 spa and fitness facility, a 1,800 seat theater, and 150,000 sq ft (14,000 m2) of meeting/convention space. In 2013, the hotel was rated "The Best Hotel in the World" by Gogobot. In 2015, the resort was named to the Condé Nast Traveller Gold List as one of the "Top Hotels in the World". .

2009 - Paradise Nevada.   Aria Resort and Casino is a luxury resort and casino, part of the CityCenter complex on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Aria consists of two curved glass and steel high rise towers adjoined at the center. It opened on December 16, 2009 as a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Infinity World Development. At 4,000,000 sq ft (370,000 m2) and 600 ft (180 m) in height, it is the largest and tallest structure at CityCenter.

1947 - Reno, NV.   Mapes Hotel-Casino opened on the corner of East First and South Virginia Streets. It was a 12-story building that contained 300 hotel rooms, a nightclub, cocktail lounge, coffee shop and a casino. The gaming was leased to Lou Wertheimer, Leo Kind, Frank Grannis and Bernie Einstoss, who operated craps, roulette, 21 and slot machines. One of the popular features of the hotel was the Sky Room, which featured dining, dancing and gaming. In 1979 the Mapes began having financial problems. She struggled, received loan extensions, there were threats of foreclosure and chapter 11 was filed. Finally, on December 17, 1982, it was announced to the employees that the Mapes, and her sister property The Money Tree would close. Apparently the employees were not paid for their final days of work. On January 30, 2000 the Mapes was imploded. .

1956 - Reno, NV.   Holiday Hotel opened at 111 Mill Street. Original plans called for a 200-room hotel, with no casino. Five days before the hotel opened, it was announced that there would be 50 slot machines, but no table games. In 1957, the hotel was sold to a group that included Newton Crumley, who had operated the Commercial Hotel in Elko for several years. On August 1, 1957, the Crumley group took over and opened a full casino. There was a grand opening that lasted for a week...with free buffets, gifts for the guests, drawings for lavish prizes, and entertainment. .

1969 - Reno, NV.   Zimba's Casino opened at 44 West Commercial Row. Zimba's closed in August of 1972, and in December the property was sold. The Town Club, and later the Old Reno Club, operated at the location.

1993 - Las Vegas, NV.   MGM Grand Hotel & Theme Park opens. Notice the unfinished signs in the below photo.When the MGM Grand opened, the intention was to create the first true destination hotel in the Las Vegas area by including the MGM Grand Adventures Theme Park behind the casino. The plan was to make the Las Vegas Strip more family friendly by providing activities for those too young to linger inside the casino. The theme park performed poorly and did not reopen for the 2001 season. On December 5, 2002, MGM Resorts International (then named MGM Mirage) announced that the former theme park would be developed as a luxury condominium and hotel complex called The Signature at MGM Grand.

1993 - Las Vegas Nevada.   The MGM Grand Las Vegas is a hotel casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The MGM Grand is the second largest hotel in the world by number of rooms and the largest hotel resort complex in the United States, ahead of The Venetian. When it opened in 1993, the MGM Grand was the largest hotel in the world.

1996 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Orleans is a hotel and casino located in Paradise, Nevada. It is owned and operated by Boyd Gaming. It includes the large multipurpose Orleans Arena that can be converted into an ice rink. It is a major home for poker in the Las Vegas Valley and was one of the biggest poker rooms in Las Vegas prior to the 21st-century poker boom. .

2019 - Thursday

1931 - Reno, NV.   The Jokereno Club opened at 130 North Center Street, with slots and keno (bingo). The Club's lavish decor included the brass cashier's grille from the Comstock Bank in Virginia City...through which millions of dollars in silver had passed during the famous days of the Comstock. On opening night, Reno mayor E.E. Roberts started the first bingo game. The club closed in 1932 and the site later became the location of the Dog House.

1995 - New Orleans, LA.   Star casino closes.

2002 - New York.   Bruce Landau passed away. Bruce was one of the initial organizers of CCGTCC, becoming Charter Member #002 and the founding Treasurer. Landau took on the responsibility of chairing the annual auctions when the Club began conducting them at each annual convention. His efforts, combined with those of the numerous volunteers who assisted in the auctions, resulted in the single largest money-making event for the Club each year. The annual auction has been named after Bruce in recognition of his organizational talents and as a memorial to his contributions to the hobby. He was also, after his own induction, Chairman of the Hall of Fame committee.

1933 - Reno, NV.   The bar in the Overland Hotel, at 242 North Center Street, was licensed for roulette. Over the years they also offered other games, including 21. .

2000 - Shreveport, LA.   Hollywood casino opens.

2001 - Blackhawk Colorado.   Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk is a casino and hotel in Black Hawk, Colorado, owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties and operated by Penn National Gaming. Plans for the casino were revealed in 1997 by Windsor Woodmont, a company formed by several Dallas-based real estate developers. Hyatt Hotels was tapped to manage the casino. Excavation work on the site began in August 1998, but stalled later that year, reportedly because of financing problems related to the arrival of two other large casinos in Black Hawk (the Lodge and the Isle of Capri). Construction resumed in 2000. The casino opened on December 20, 2001, as the Black Hawk Casino by Hyatt At the opening, it was the largest casino in Colorado, with 57,000 square feet (5,300 m2) of gaming space, containing 1,332 slot machines, 16 blackjack tables, and 6 poker tables. The casino was designed as the first phase of a destination resort, with later additions planned to include a 350-suite hotel tower, a convention center, nightclubs, a spa, and a moun.

1986 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Gold Coast Hotel and Casino is a hotel and casino located in Paradise, Nevada. This locals' casino is owned and operated by Boyd Gaming. The Gold Coast is located one mile (1.6 km) west of the Las Vegas Strip on West Flamingo Road. It is located across the street from the Palms Casino Resort and the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.
