1951 - Las Vegas, NV.   Binion's Horseshoe Club opens at 128 East Fremont Street, downtown Las Vegas .

1989 - Henderson Nevada.   Klondike Sunset Casino is a locals casino located on 2.2 acres (0.89 ha) of land at 444 West Sunset Road, west of Boulder Highway, in Henderson, Nevada.It was initially owned by Tom Yarbrough, who opened it as Tom's Sunset Casino on August 2, 1989. The casino closed in January 1998, due to financial losses and new competition. John Woodrum purchased the casino and reopened it as the Klondike Sunset Casino in October 1999, after a $5 million renovation. The casino was a sister property to Woodrum's Klondike Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip in nearby Paradise, Nevada.After Woodrum's death in 2014, the casino was closed and sold to Carl Giudici, whose plans to renovate and reopen the casino failed to materialize. Bruce Familian and Jon Athey purchased the casino in December 2015, and reopened it on August 3, 2016, after an eight-month renovation.

1933 - Boston Massachusetts.   An American business magnate, investor and philanthropist. He is the chairman and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, which owns the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and is the parent company of Venetian Macao Limited which operates The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and the Sands Expo and Convention Center. He also owns the Israeli daily newspaper Israel Hayom, and the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Adelson, a lifelong donor and philanthropist to a variety of causes, founded with his wife's initiative the Adelson Foundation.As of June 2015, Adelson was listed by Forbes as having a fortune of $28 billion, and as the 18th richest person in the world. He is a major contributor to Republican Party candidates, which has resulted in his gaining significant influence within the party.

1932 - Willows, CA.   Harold Smith, Jr. was born in Willows, CA. He was named Raymond I. Smith, after his grandfather, but had his name legally changed to Harold Smith, Jr. .

1966 - Las Vegas, NV.   Caesars Palace is an AAA Four Diamond luxury hotel and casino in Paradise, Nevada, United States, situated on the west side of the Las Vegas Strip, between the Bellagio and the Mirage. The Palace was established in 1966 by Jay Sarno, who sought to create an opulent facility that gave guests a sense of life during the Roman Empire. It contains many statues, columns, and iconography typical of Hollywood Roman period productions, including a 20-foot statue of Julius Caesar near the entrance. Caesars Palace is now owned and operated by Caesars Entertainment Corporation. As of 2015, the hotel has 3,960 rooms and suites in six towers and a convention facility of over 300,000 square feet . The hotel has a very large range of restaurants, including several serving authentic Chinese cuisine to cater to the wealthy East Asian gamblers. Caesars Palace is one of the most prestigious casino hotels in the world and one of Las Vegas's largest and best-known landmarks.

1971 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Slots-A-Fun Casino is a casino on the Las Vegas Strip, owned by MGM Resorts International. It is adjacent to Circus Circus.Slots-A-Fun is independently managed. It is one of the smallest casinos operating on The Strip, and offers some of the lowest table-game betting minimums on the famed street. As of summer 2008, players could wager as little as $2.00 at craps and $1.00 at blackjack. The craps table is directly located at the main open-air entrance and, of all gaming tables in Las Vegas, is the gaming table that is physically located closest to the traffic of the Strip. .

1952 - Reno, NV.   Bill Fong, a Chinese businessman from Oakland, California received a gaming license for the New China Club. The Club was located at 260 Lake Street, and catered to Asian and African American customers. In September of 1958 Fong held a contest to crown a "Keno Queen"; Mrs. Ruby Roberts was the contest winner. On December 31, 1971, the gaming license at the New China Club expired, and the business closed.

2008 - Las Vegas, NV.   Bob Maheu died at age 90. He was best known as the alter-ego of billionaire businessman Howard Hughes. In the late 1960s, Maheu helped the reclusive Hughes acquire Las Vegas Strip hotel-casinos, which began to rid the town of its mob influence and usher in the corporate age of gaming in Southern Nevada.
