2020 - Sunday

1961 - Reno, NV.   The Maverick opened at 19 East Douglas Alley, a locals bar and casino. It closed in 1965 and reopened as the Ringside.

1989 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Mirage is a 3,044 room Polynesian-themed resort and casino resort located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, United States. The resort was built by developer Steve Wynn and is currently owned and operated by MGM Resorts International.The original marquee sign in front of the Mirage is the largest free standing marquee in the world. The resort is connected by a free tram to the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino neighboring the hotel's property to the north.

1995 - New Orleans, LA.   Harrah's casino closes.

1996 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Main Street Station Hotel and Casino and Brewery is a hotel and casino located in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. It is owned by Boyd Gaming. The casino is connected to California Hotel and Casino by an enclosed skywalk over Main Street.Main Street Station offers a self-guided tour which includes a portion of the Berlin Wall, stained glass from the Lillian Russell Mansion, doors and facade from the Kuwait Royal Bank, doors from the George Pullman Mansion, Louisa May Alcott Pullman car, chandeliers from the Coca-Cola building and Figaro Opera House, and various statues.] The portion of the Berlin Wall is located in the men's restroom and has urinals affixed to it].

1998 - Las Vegas, NV.   Stu Ungar, whose astronomical wagers and fearless play at high-stakes poker tables became the stuff of which gambling legends are made, was found dead Sunday in a Las Vegas motel room. He was 45.

1980 - Atlantic City, NJ.   Harrah's Resort Atlantic City is a hotel and casino, located in the marina district of Atlantic City, New Jersey, and is Harrah's flagship casino.The casino is one of three in the marina district of the city, along with the Borgata and the Golden Nugget. Harrah's was the first to be located in the district and remained the only resort there until Trump's Castle was opened in 1985. It was the fifth casino to open after the legalization of gambling.

1981 - Atlantic City, NJ.   The Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City is a luxury hotel, casino, and spa resort located on Brighton Avenue and the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It is owned by Tropicana Entertainment and is one of the largest hotels in New Jersey with just over 2,000 rooms. Tropicana has over 3,000 slot machines and 135 table games and also features The Quarter, a shopping mall located in the complex. The hotel just completed a $50 million expansion and renovation, including a free multimedia light and sound show on its boardwalk facade.

1966 - Las Vegas, NV.   Thanksgiving Day, Howard Huges moved into the top two floors of the Desert Inn.

2020 - Wednesday

1997 - Las Vegas Nevada.   The Aladdin closed on November 25, 1997. NCL/National Content Liquidators conducted an on-site liquidation sale beginning March 5, 1998, and continued until the building was "sold out". On April 27, 1998, the entire resort was imploded at 7:27 pm, except for the Aladdin Theatre to make way for the construction of an entirely new casino. .

1961 - Reno, NV.   Roy's Cocktail Lounge, also called Roy's Bar, was licensed for a blackjack game. Located at 19 East Douglas Alley, the bar was owned by Earl Roberts. In September of 1962 the name was changed to Maverick's Saloon, until 1965.

1970 - Las Vegas, NV.   After four years in Las Vegas, Howard Hughes left abruptly. On Thanksgiving Eve 1970, Hughes was reportedly carried out of the Desert Inn on a stretcher, driven to Nellis Air Force Base in an unmarked van and flown by private jet to Resorts International's Brittania Beach hotel in the Bahamas.

1994 - New Orleans, LA.   Queen of New Orleans casino closes.

1996 - Las Vegas, NV.   In the mid 1960s, Sands and its adjacent properties were bought by the reclusive businessman Howard Hughes, who built a 500-room tower and modernized the hotel. After the 1970s it fell into decline until its final owner, Sheldon Adelson, made the decision to shut it down and to build a brand new resort. The last dice in the casino was rolled by Bob Stupak just after 6pm on June 30, 1996. On November 26 of that year, it was finally imploded and demolished, much to the dismay of longtime employees and sentimentalists. Today, The Venetian stands where the Sands once stood.

1945 - Reno, NV.   The Wagon Wheel Bar, 116 East Commercial Row, was licensed for slots and 21. Early in 1950 the club was cited for using marked cards and, on April 11, the Reno City Council ordered the club closed. In April of 1956 the Wagon Wheel reopened at 136 East Commercial Row, where it operated until December of 1960...and was again shut down by the City Council. .

 
November 28th
2020 - Saturday

1958 - Reno, NV.   The Liberty Belle Saloon opened at 4250 South Virginia Street. It was opened by Frank and Marshal Fey, who named it after the Liberty Belle slot machine which was invented by their grandfather, Charles Fey, in 1898...the first 3-reel slot machine. Charles Fey was from San Francisco, and all but 4 of his Liberty Bell slot machines were destroyed by the 1906 earthquake and fire. One of the four surviving machines was on display at the Liberty Belle Saloon until it closed. The Liberty Bell Saloon was known for steak and prime rib, as well as its antique slot machines and music boxes.
